Politikstudio (politikstudio.de) is owned and operated by Politikstudi Media Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009) with its registered office at Office 9, Business Centre, Valletta, 0000, Malta. As the data controller, we are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact our data protection team at info@politikstudio.de.

What personal data do we collect and why?

We collect only the personal data you voluntarily provide and the data necessary to deliver our journalism and services. This includes your name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter, contact us via our contact form, or submit a tip through Tip Us. We may also collect technical data such as IP address, browser type, and device information through cookies and analytics tools — full details are in our Cookie Policy. We use this data to send you requested newsletters, respond to enquiries, verify sources, improve our website, and comply with legal obligations. We do not collect sensitive categories of personal data unless you choose to provide them in a message.

How do we use your data?

Your personal data is used solely for the purposes for which you provided it and for our legitimate journalistic and operational interests. Specifically, we use your email address to deliver our newsletter if you have subscribed, to respond to corrections or complaints, and to communicate with you about editorial matters. Technical data helps us analyse site traffic, detect security threats, and optimise user experience. We never use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal effects. Each use is documented in our internal data-processing records, and we regularly review whether a purpose remains necessary.

Who do we share your data with?

We share your personal data only with trusted processors who act on our instructions and are bound by data-processing agreements compliant with UK GDPR. These include our email newsletter platform, web hosting provider, and analytics service. We do not sell your data to third parties. If we are required by law — for example, to comply with a court order or regulatory request from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) — we may disclose relevant data. In the event of a corporate restructuring or transfer of ownership, data may be transferred to the new entity under the same protections.

What are your rights under UK GDPR?

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, object to processing, and port your personal data. You may also withdraw any consent you have given at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. To exercise these rights, email info@politikstudio.de with your request and proof of identity. We will respond within one calendar month. If you are unsatisfied, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO (ico.org.uk). Our Chefredaktör, Oliver Keller, oversees data-protection compliance and can be reached at anders.lindqvist@politikstudio.de.

How long do we keep your data?

We retain your personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected or as required by law. Newsletter subscriber data is kept until you unsubscribe; after unsubscription, we delete your email address from our active list within 30 days. Contact and tip submissions are deleted after two years unless they are part of a journalistic investigation that requires longer retention in the public interest. Technical data from cookies is kept according to the retention periods specified in our Cookie Policy. We conduct annual data-cleansing exercises to ensure compliance.

Do we use cookies and similar technologies?

Yes, we use cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve site functionality, analyse usage, and deliver relevant advertising where permitted. For a full description of the cookies we use, their purposes, and how you can manage your preferences, please see our Cookie Policy. You can adjust your cookie settings at any time through the cookie consent banner. We do not use cookies that identify you personally without your explicit consent, except for strictly necessary session cookies.

How do we protect your data?

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to secure your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+), access controls limited to named staff members (such as Redaktionschef Anna Ludwig and the editorial team), regular security audits, and staff training on data protection. Our hosting provider is ISO 27001 certified. In the unlikely event of a data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the ICO and affected individuals within 72 hours.

  • To keep your data secure and confidential using industry‑standard protections.
  • To respect and promptly respond to your data‑subject rights under UK GDPR.
  • To review and update this privacy policy at least annually, publishing any changes on this page.
